Agnes Dorothy Ambrutis, 92, of Tunkhannock, died Saturday, February 27 at Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of sixty four years Frank (Fritz) A. Ambrutis, Sr.. Born January 8, 1918, in Wilkes Barre, PA She was the daughter of late William and Victoria Moker Stroka. She was a member the church of Nativity BVM in Tunkhannock and a 1935 graduate of Tunkhannock High School. Agnes was primarily a homemaker, who loved taking care of her family. While her children were growing up, she worked weekends at Shadowbrook and she also spent several years immediately after high school working in New York City. Agnes was a devoted wife, loving mother and dedicated care giver to several of her family members. She loved going “up on the hill” to work in her garden, and was an expert seamstress. One of her greatest joys was her Catholic faith . During her later years, she attended morning mass daily, enjoying the short walk from her house. Agnes served as an advisor to the ARC of Wyoming County and was a Board member of the Wyoming County Board of Assistance. She was also a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Altar and Rosary Society. Agnes and her husband, Fritz, would have celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary on March 17, 2010. She was preceded in death by her sons, Frank Ambrutis, Jr , 2006 and Mark Patrick Ambrutis, 1980; five brothers, John Stroka, George Stroka, Joseph Stroka, Anthony Stroka and Leo Stroka. Surviving is son, John Ambrutis and his wife, Jan; a son in law, Gary Bluhm and her late daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ambrutis Bluhm who died just days after her mother on March 1, 2010; a sister, Bertha Stroka Holod and husband, Dan, all of Tunkhannock. She had four grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 6 at 10:00 AM from the Church of Nativity BVM Tioga St. Tunkhannock. Friends are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will be held in Mt. Carmel Cemetery Tunkhannock. Friends and family may call on Friday afternoon and evening from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc. 73 West Tioga St. Tunkhannock. Memorial contributions can be made to the Church of Nativity BVM Tunkhannock or a Alzheimer’s association of the donors choice.
