Jessie G. Moss, of Tunkhannock, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at home. Jessie was born November 10, 1919, at Lake Winola, a daughter of the late Hugh and Clara Newman Grose. She was married to the late William E. Moss. Jessie was a graduate of Blakely High School. While she was there, she played basketball for the late John Henzes Sr. She was also a graduate of the Wilkes-Barre Business School. She was married on December 21, 1941, after the attack on Pearl Harbor. After residing at several military bases during World War II, she became a lifelong resident of Tunkhannock. Jessie worked as the bookkeeper for Moss Service Center and the Tunkhannock Lumber Company. She was a member of the Tunkhannock Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she served as a Deaconess, Sunday school teacher, mission board chairwoman, and was a member of the choir. Jessie served as a school director at the Tunkhannock Area School District. She was also one of the founders of the Tyler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, where she was the chairperson for their annual antique show. She also served as a chairperson for the March of Dimes in Tunkhannock. Jessie was formerly an avid bowler, playing in many leagues, and once bowled a "perfect game." She was preceded in death by her sisters, Daysie Arbogast, Dorothy Renaldo, Virginia Beckwith, Marian Lee, Orcille Eipper, Helen Hoffman, and Verna Harvey; and brothers, Donald, Kenneth, Harry, and Robert Grose. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela M. Samuel, and her husband, Earl, Dallas, and daughter Trudy C. Cook and her husband, David, Tunkhannock; grandchildren, Seth, Jared and Matthew Samuel, Dallas; Kevin Cook, Jenningsville; Kelly C. Fry and her husband, Travis, Hughesville; and great-grandchildren, Karyn Cook; Kaeli, Elijah and Isaiah Samuel. The family would also like to thank Dr. Gary Russell and nurses at Geisinger Nicholson, Heartland Hospice personnel, and special caregivers, Marie Golden, Pat Rowe, and Diane O'Malley, for their wonderful care. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Community Bible Church, Rt. 92 S., Tunkhannock, with Pastor David Stuckey officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 38 N. Main St., Pittston, PA 18640.
