Donald E. Davis 90, of Tunkhannock, died Thursday at the Meadows Nursing Home in Dallas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jane C. Davis. Born Dec. 1, 1920, in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late Stanley and Helen Jones Davis, he was a 1939 graduate of Kingston Twp. High School. He worked for Sordoni Construction before enlisting in the Army, serving in the Philippines during World War II as a staff sergeant. He retired in 1986 after 45 years with Commonwealth Telephone, where he started as a repairman and retired as a district superintendent for the Northeast region. He was a member the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church, which he served as a trustee, a member of the choir and a Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Temple Lodge 248 F&AM, which he served as secretary for 37 years. He was a member of the Tunkhannock Rotary Club for 40 years, which he served as treasurer and president. Donald enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader and once a year he took a group of boys from Troop 681 to Camp Acahela for a week. Donald's special interests included traveling with his late wife Jane, playing golf, watching his children and grandchildren playing sports, spending time with his family and watching his favorite teams the Eagles, Phillies, and Penn State. He is survived by two sons and their spouses, Donald and Barbara Davis, Tunkhannock; and Russ and Carollyn Davis, Lake Winola; a daughter and husband, Deborah and Michael Yager, Dallas; five grandchildren, Melissa Banks, Matthew Davis, Allison Ramil, Katie and Stephen Davis.; a great-grandson, Dylan Banks; a brother, Stanley Davis, Shippensburg; and a sister, Margaret Cable, Shavertown. The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with services by the Rev. Craig Gommer, pastor of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church. Interment, Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Friends may call Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m. A Masonic service will be conducted by Temple Lodge 248 F&AM at 3:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
