John R. Kiefer John R. Kiefer of Tunkhannock died Friday of natural causes while turkey hunting with his grandson in Springville Twp., Susquehanna County. He was born in Binghamton, NY on March 7, 1947 son of the late Clifton “Spike” and Evelyn Oakley Kiefer. John was a 1965 graduate of Elk Lake High School and had worked at the Proctor and Gamble plant in Mehoopany for over 29years. He had a great love for the outdoors. He especially liked to share his passion for hunting with numerous friends. And he especially liked to share his knowledge of hunting with young hunters and mentoring them in the safety and handling of fire arms. For over 50 years he was involved in tractor pulling contests and was the founder of Kiefer Pulling Team. A member of the NRA, Endless Mountians Antique Power Association, and the Burr Hill Pulling Association. Preceding him in death were brothers Audley and Tom Kiefer. Surviving is his “woman” Tami Owens, sons Mark and Brenda Kiefer of Ft. White, Fla., Kris and Denise Kiefer of Mehoopany, daughter Amy and David Mitchell of St. Joseph, Michigan, brothers Donald Kiefer of Sugar Run, Jim Kiefer of Baltimore, sister Karen Hagler of High Springs , Fla. , 7grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday evening at 7 pm from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock with Pastor Gary Myers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 pm until the time of service. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Burr Hill Pulling Association, 1 Rails Road, Tunkhannock, Pa. 18657.
