Valera V. Roberts

Valera V. (Phillips) Roberts of Blakely Borough passed away unexpectedly Friday February 10, 2017 while traveling in Plains Township, PA. Born June 7, 1931 in Newton Township, Lackawanna County she was the daughter of the late Peter and late Mary Tranowicz (Filipkowski) Phillips. She was a graduate of the Newton High School, class of 1949. She was a retired seamstress and real estate investor. She was a member of St. Ann’s Church, Scranton, PA and regularly attended services as well as the annual Novena. She greatly enjoyed gardening at her home. She was known for her flower gardens and well cared for lawn. She adored her cats Binky, Rusty, Rocky and Cruiser. She loved traveling to casinos and spending time with friends there. She was known by her friends and family as Valerie. She was preceded in death by brothers Peter Jr., Stanley, Louis and Leonard; sisters Helen, Elizabeth and Leona. She is survived by her son Robert L. and wife Sherri A. Roberts of Tunkhannock; grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. The family extends its sincere gratitude to the emergency room staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital and first responders for their efforts in caring for Valera. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 15 at 11:00 AM from the Church of Nativity BVM in Tunkhannock. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. A viewing for friends and family will be held on Wednesday Morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass at the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc. 73 West Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA.
