James E. Lunger, 85, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Tunkhannock, died Tuesday in St. Ann's Hospital, Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita E. Baker Lunger, Born April 1, 1923, in Fishing Creek Twp., Columbia County, son of the late Furman and Mary Edwards Lunger, he was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines. Before his retirement, he was employed by Penelec for more than 35 years. He enjoyed baseball and was active in the Tunkhannock Baseball Association, serving as coach for Turrell's little league team for many years and was a faithful supporter of the St. Louis Cardinals. Surviving are a daughter, Sharon and husband, Robert Donahue, a granddaughter, Stephanie, and husband, Bill Boone, all of Gahanna, Ohio; two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Donahue and Lindsey Boone; a stepgrandson, Carter Boone; a brother-in-law, Paul and wife, Silvia Baker, Durham, N.C.; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Emily Lunger, Falls; Robert and Jane Lunger, Dalton; Vernon and Betty Lunger, West Chester; Leo and Evelyn Lunger, Shrewsbury, Pa.; and Furman Jr. and Dorothy Lunger, Springville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Annabelle and Gerald Sands, Tunkhannock; and Margaret and John Roberts, South Point, Ohio; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Heinrich. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock. Interment, Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Friends may call Friday, 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
